New Delhi: Farmers will not only have to face legal action for burning stubble but may also have to go to jail. After a strong uproar by the Supreme Court, the Air Quality Management Commission (CAQM) has adopted a strict stance. Along with this, a target has also been set to completely stop the incidents of stubble burning.
According to the information, CQM on Thursday provided special powers to all the district officers of Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, UP and Delhi under the Air Quality Management Act in the national capital and surrounding areas. Commission Member Secretary Arvind Nautiyal has asked the Chief Secretaries of the said states to completely stop the incidents of stubble burning.
DC and District Magistrates have been told in clear words that if stubble rots anywhere then legal action should be taken against the accused. Along with registering an FIR with the police, strict action should also be ensured. Even action should be taken against officials at all levels who are negligent in this direction. The CAQM has also directed all state governments in NCR to ban stubble burning at all costs. For this, it has been asked to increase both monitoring and action.
It is noteworthy that even though the residents of the National Capital Region are breathing clean air now, soon this night will become 'wind'. Due to this, incidents of stubble burning are increasing rapidly. Till Thursday, 772 such incidents have been reported in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Delhi. The wind has also started becoming north-westerly. In such a situation, the smoke of stubble will soon start suffocating the residents of ANCR.
