Obayashi Corporation holds the record for building the world's tallest tower, Tokyo Skytree. In 2012, the company announced the construction of a space elevator. In a report this year, the company said construction of the $100 billion project would begin in 2025. The company hoped its space elevator would be operational by 2050.
