The Maratha Reservation Bill was passed unanimously in the Maharashtra Assembly on Tuesday, and will now be introduced in the Legislative Council. The state provides 10 percent reservation in government jobs and education for the Maratha community. Shinde government had promised this. He would find a way to give reservation to the Maratha community without tampering with the OBC reservation and he did so. Maratha reservation activist Manoj Jarange, who took Maratha reservation to a turning point, is not happy with the decision of the Shinde government. The question is, what is the reason why Manoj Jarang is worried even after getting reservation?
Reservation bill welcomed
Manoj Jarang Patil, who has been fighting for Maratha reservation, welcomed the reservation bill passed by the Assembly on Tuesday, but argued that the proposed reservation is not as per the demand of our community. He said that our demand is to give reservation to the Maratha community under OBC quota. Jarange is not satisfied with 10 percent Maratha reservation. He said that the government has cheated and now we will intensify the movement. It doesn't matter to us whether the Maharashtra government gives 10 percent or 20 percent reservation, we want reservation in the OBC category. To take the reservation movement forward, Manoj Jarang has called a meeting of the Maratha community on Wednesday.
Why are you not happy with the reservation?
Shinde government had passed a bill in the Assembly to provide separate 10 percent reservation to the Maratha community. Even after this Manoj Jarange is not happy. Jarang himself explained the reason for this. Jarange does not want separate reservation for the Maratha community, but intends to provide reservation under the OBC category. That is why Jarang said that we want the reservation we deserve. We should be given reservation under Other Backward Class i.e. OBC having Kunbi certificate. Pass 'Sage Soire' law also for those who do not have Kunbi certificate. In a way, Jarange wants the Maratha community to be given Kunbi caste certificate.
kunbi certificate
Manoj Jarange said, blood relatives should also be allowed to register for Kunbi certificate. He said that Kunbi caste in Maharashtra comes under OBC category. Thus, it is clear that all people of Maratha community should be considered as Kunbi and should be given reservation accordingly (under OBC). Only 100-150 Maratha people will get the benefit of reservation given by Shinde government. Our people will be deprived of reservation. I stand firm on the demand of implementing Sage Sore law.
Jaranj stuck to his word
Jarange, who is leading the Maratha reservation movement, said that the government had promised us that the relatives of those whose Kunbi records will be found will also be given Kunbi i.e. OBC reservation. But, the CM has said that the government has received 6 lakh objections against giving Kunbi reservation to relatives in the special session of the Assembly. A government investigation into these objections is underway. In this regard, Manoj Jarange Patil said, “Our Kunbi records have been received and our relatives should be given Kunbi certificates and instructions should be given to give reservation under OBC quota.” We will stick to what we want. We have no reason to reject 10 per cent reservation,' Manoj Jarange said. But this 10 percent Maratha reservation is only for Maharashtra. Marathas will not get reservation outside the state. Also, if they were included in OBC under Kunbi caste, then apart from the state, the country and other states would also benefit from it. This is because reservation in OBC is from state to center and Kunbi caste is in OBC at state and national level. That is why Jaranga demands that the Maratha community should be given reservation under Kunbi caste.
Will the matter reach court again?
Maratha reservation has been demanded in Maharashtra for a long time and it has been given for the third time in the last decade, but the court has rejected it twice. In 2014, the Congress-NCP coalition government had given 16 percent reservation to the Maratha community. After this, in the year 2018, the Fadnavis government gave 16 percent reservation to the Maratha community in jobs and education. After this, in June 2019, the Bombay High Court reduced it to 12 percent in education and 13 percent in jobs, but the Supreme Court put a stay on it.
10% reservation
Now the Eknath Shinde led NDA government has again given a separate 10 percent reservation to the Maratha community. State CM Eknath Shinde said in the special session of the Assembly that the purpose of this session is to help the Maratha community. He said, we want to give reservation to the Maratha community without touching the existing quota of OBCs in the state. It has been said in the bill that Marathas constitute 28 percent of the total population of Maharashtra. It said that a large number of castes and groups are already in the reserved category, which together are getting about 52 percent reservation. It said that it would be completely unfair to include the Maratha community in the Other Backward Class (OBC) category.
bill in court
Just as the Maharashtra government has given 10 percent reservation to the Maratha community, similarly reservation has been given to Jats in Haryana and Gujjars in Rajasthan, but the court has canceled it. In such a situation, when the opponents of Maratha reservation are talking about challenging it in the court, Manoj Jarange wants that they should be given OBC quota instead of giving them separate reservation, but this is causing resentment among the OBC community. , The OBC community does not want the Maratha community to be included in the OBC category. The dependency limit of 10 percent has been fixed based on the criteria of social backwardness of the Maratha community given in the report of the Maharashtra Backward Classes Commission. It is passed by the Assembly, which has to be presented in the Legislative Council. Along with this, the anti-Maratha reservation department is also announcing that the Maratha reservation bill will be challenged in the court. However, the Eknath Shinde government has filed a curative review petition in the Supreme Court against the Maratha reservation decision, which was earlier canceled by the Supreme Court. The government claims that its bill will definitely stand in the court.
