Hamirpur, 05 November (HS). Troubled by the shortage of fertilizer required for the Rabi crop, farmers stood hungry and thirsty in long lines for fertilizer at the Sumerpur PCF Center and cooperative societies on Tuesday, but most of them were disappointed. Farmers from different villages were standing in queue since morning. Only limited quantities of fertilizer were distributed, due to which most farmers returned empty handed.

Farmers allege that their slips were pre-cut while giving priority to some influential people, while ordinary farmers and women farmers were ignored. Some influential people were given twenty sacks of fertilizer each without Aadhar card and Khatauni, but the PCF warehouse in-charge did not give even a single bag of fertilizer to the weaker farmers. Hemraj and Shrikant of Birkhera, Bhim Prakash of Patanpur, Ram Sevak of Sumerpur, Shanti Bhauniya, Geeta Mauhar, Sangeeta Patyora, Rama Bhauniya and Shantipandhari accused the PCF in-charge of arbitrarily distributing fertilizer. They said that the women farmers were repeatedly made to stand in queues in the sun but ultimately they were not given fertilizer and were chased out. According to the farmers, people stood in the queue for hours hungry and thirsty to get two sacks of fertilizer but due to favoritism they had to return. During this period, there was an atmosphere of chaos at the PCF centre. The farmers who did not get the fertilizer were disappointed and returned to their villages empty-handed and were seen complaining about the false promises of the government and administration.
