In earlier times, pets were not kept inside the house. Cats were inside the house. But today, everything from dogs to fishes should be kept inside the house. They cannot be left outside in the cities. Hence, Vastu is also required for keeping pets at home. Because it is not healthy for them to live and roam around as per their wish. It is not auspicious even from the Vastu point of view. Almost every Hindu god uses some animal as a vehicle. Rat for Ganesha, swan for Saraswati, bull for Shiva, etc. Hence, we should not hesitate to keep pets. But Vastu is required only in the way of keeping. Let us see how it is.
These pets are suitable according to Vastu Shastra
Pets like dogs, tropical fish, parrots and lovebirds or tortoises can be kept in the house as per Vastu. But cats and pigeons are not so auspicious. This means that if you choose these species as pets, you will need to impose some restrictions on them.
Vastu defect of bird cage
Vastu is strictly against caged birds. Because they take away the freedom of birds. An alternative to a cage can give you many options on how to create indoor designs. If you have birds and need a cage, place a bird's nest and a clay pot in a south-east facing window or balcony. It is a good luck charm.
dog bed
If you live in a detached bungalow or villa, the ideal location for a large dog kennel is always near the front door. If you live in an apartment and keep small breed dogs, place your dog's bed in the East, North, East-North-East (ENE) or North-West direction. Keep them happy, healthy and fit. If you feel that the newly adopted puppy is very scared or introverted, place it in the North-West.
Do not place your pet's bed in the North East as it leads to laziness in every member of the family. South-West and South-East directions should not be used to place your pet's bed as these disturb the animals. If your dog's bed is in the South East (SSE) then he may experience frequent health ailments.
Black Dogs
In the Mahabharata, a black dog finally befriended Yudhishthira. Therefore, Vastu considers the black dog as a reliable friend who will be with you during difficult times in your life. Vedic astrology recommends keeping a black dog if you are facing the inauspicious position of Saturn, Rahu or Ketu in the house.
In the aquarium
Tropical fish are auspicious according to Vastu. It should be in the east or north-west direction. It should be three feet above the ground. Keeping fish is not auspicious for people who keep cats. In Feng Shui, turtles represent wisdom, longevity and flexibility. In Hinduism, the turtle represents the second incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Keeping a turtle pond in the north direction of the house attracts wealth.
Farm animals
Keeping a cow is very auspicious for Hindus. In a farmhouse, it is better to build a Gaushala in the east or north-west direction. But this is difficult in cities; possible in rural areas. Some keep horses. The stable should always be located in the west or north-west. Because it is said that it activates the horse power of the person.
