Israel Defense Forces have achieved another success. Hezbollah chief Nasrallah Hashem Saffieddine was killed in an airstrike in Beirut in early October, according to the Israeli military. Israel made the revelation 19 days after the attack, a report that has not been confirmed by Hezbollah.
A statement issued by the IDF said that on October 4, Hezbollah's intelligence office was targeted in the Dahiya area. This can now be confirmed by an attack that took place about three weeks ago, in which dozens of Hezbollah commanders, from Hashem Saffieddin, head of Hezbollah's executive council, to Ali Hussein Hajimani, head of Hezbollah's intelligence department, were killed.
Israeli PM Netanyahu gave information
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had previously reported the military's success in targeting Hezbollah's leadership, but did not name Safadin. “We have killed thousands of terrorists in our continued strikes in Lebanon, including Nasrallah himself and the leaders after Nasrallah,” Netanyahu said in the statement.
Who was Safideen?
Saffieddine heads the Executive Council, Hezbollah's highest political decision-making body, and was reportedly chosen as Nasrallah's successor a few years ago. He was Nasrallah's cousin and was seen as his successor.
Israel is trying to eliminate the leadership
“We have reached Nasrallah, his successors and most of Hezbollah's senior leadership,” IDF chief Lt. Gen. Harzi Halevi said, stressing the military's intention to target the leadership. “These operations are being conducted to reduce the ongoing threat from Hezbollah,” he said.
