Mumbai: A 55-year-old woman living in Mumbai's western suburb Dahinsar had the bitter experience of calling a cleaning team through an online app for Diwali cleaning. Along with cleaning the house, the two people who came to clean also cleaned the gold jewelery worth four lakhs kept in the house. However, based on the CCTV footage of the building, one person has been arrested while two others have been questioned.
In this regard, Leena Mhatre, a resident of Rishikesh Society, Dahisar, had booked two persons online for cleaning work through a no-broker app on October 21 in preparation for the Diwali festival. Next morning, two men came to Mhatre's house for cleaning work. The men did the cleaning and after they left, when the woman opened the cupboard of the house, she found the gold jewelery missing.
After the cleaning workers left, Mr. Mahatre came to know about the theft and immediately lodged a complaint with the police. In this case, the authorities took immediate action and arrested 27 year old Arbaaz Khan. He has been identified as a theft suspect. After examining the CCTV footage of the society, police identified two other persons, Santosh Yadav and Sufiyan Nazir Ahmed Saudar, and took them into custody for questioning.
After this incident, a question mark has been raised on the recruitment of employees for cleaning etc. through online platforms. Apart from this, the credibility of such people and the safety of the common man is also in danger.
After this incident, the police have investigated whether the No-Broker app had done background verification of these people before hiring them or not? A police officer said that any app or company should get police verification of such employees done before hiring other employees including sweepers, which is very important.
