News India Live, Digital Desk: Today heart-wrenching news has come to light. During the Manipur violence, in May 2023, when the situation was at its worst, a 22-year-old girl from the Kuki community was brutally gang-raped by some criminals in Churuchandpur. She had somehow survived at that time, but was completely broken from inside.

She kept fighting this trauma for about one and a half to two years, but in the end her courage gave way.

When the pain becomes unbearable
According to reports, this girl, who was a victim of violence, was suffering from depression for a long time. Those dreadful memories of that day could not be erased from his mind. Perhaps he felt that it was no longer possible to live with this pain. Due to this mental stress, he committed suicide by immolating himself on 10 December 2024.

It is being told that she was badly burnt. Every possible effort was made to save him. First he was taken to a local hospital, but when his condition deteriorated, he was admitted to a private hospital in Assam. She kept swinging between life and death for 11 days, but on 21 December she lost the battle and died.

What do people say?
The local organization there (ITLF) has expressed great sorrow over this. He says that when the violence broke out on May 3, 2023, the mob had caught the girl and did this brutality with her. The police registered the case, the case was handed over to the investigating agencies (CBI/SIT), but the wounds on the girl’s mind never healed.

This question is for all of us
Imagine, that girl was making rounds of relief camps and hospitals, but the fear that had settled inside her ultimately took her life. His body has now been brought to Dimapur so that his last rites can be performed.

No matter how many claims are made about the return of peace in Manipur, as long as such news continues to come, it will keep reminding us that innocent people always have to pay the price of violence – sometimes by sacrificing their lives, sometimes by killing their souls. Have we as a society failed to provide security and mental peace to these daughters?
