Mahoba, 13 April (HS). The glory of Mother Badi Chandrika Devi seated in the district headquarters is unique. There is a legend that before going to the battlefield, the brave men of Bundelkhand used to worship Alha Udal Maa and then marched for war and won over the enemies. A huge crowd of devotees reach the temple of Mata during Shardiya and Chaitra Navratri in the year.
Maa Badi Chandrika temple and the statue of Mother Goddess were established by the then king Kirti Chandravarman in 831 AD. There is a huge 10 feet high statue of Maa Chandrika here. Historians tell that both the brave warriors, Alha Udal, used to take the blessings of the mother before going into the war and used to defeat the enemy and achieve victory over them. Mother Chandrika Alha is said to be the worshipable goddess of Udal.
Temple priest Pandit Chandrika Prasad Upadhyay says that till a few years ago there was a forest around the temple. A fair is held here during both the Navratras of the year. Big and small shops are decorated on the roadside. Bhandara is organized for the devotees in the temple premises. Devotees from many districts of Madhya Pradesh including Bundelkhand come here to pay obeisance. Mother Chandrika fulfills the wishes of all the devotees.
