An Iraqi court on Wednesday sentenced one of the wives of IS terrorist Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi to death on charges she was involved in crimes against Yazdi women captured by the terror group.
What did the United Nations say?
The UN has described the campaign against the Yazidis as genocide. The decision comes just weeks before the 10th anniversary of the launch of attacks by IS against the Yazidi religious minority in the northern Iraqi region of Sinjar in early August 2014.
2018 arrests
The affidavit did not name the defendant, but two court officials identified her as Asma Mohammed. She was arrested in Turkey in 2018. An Iraqi security official said on Wednesday that she was handed over to Iraqi authorities last year.
