Lateral Entry Dispute: On the issue of lateral entry for 45 posts of officers in the central government, the opposition is making serious allegations against the government of ending reservation. Rahul Gandhi has claimed that RSS is doing recruitment instead of UPSC and the government is ending reservation.
Government response
The Railway Minister has responded to these allegations on behalf of the government. Ashwini Vaishnav has responded through a post on social media and said that Congress is hypocritical on lateral entry. This system was introduced by Congress itself.
Ashwini Vaishna has said, 'Lateral entry was recommended during the UPA government. The NDA government has implemented the recommendation with transparency. Recruitment will be done only through UPSC.'
What is this lateral entry?
To become an officer like IAS-IPS, candidates take exams through USPC. However, through lateral entry, the government can directly recruit experts from the private sector to high positions in the country, which is called lateral entry. The government appoints joint secretaries, directors, deputy secretaries of ministries through lateral entry.
