The accused thief Sahu (28) used a stolen phone to make the video. He also sent the video on the couple's WhatsApp. Without realising that the phone would be under surveillance, making it easy for the police to track him, the Durg police officer nabbed the thief.
The thief was preparing for a government job
Police said Sahu had tried to get a government job and appeared for the PSC exam but failed each time. He decided to change his career and stole some mobile phones from a vegetable market in his area. He used to commit petty thefts. A policeman said he was so lazy that he kept stealing from the same place again and again.
He came to steal the house for the third time
Crime Branch DSP Hem Prakash Nayak said Sahu had earlier committed burglaries at the couple's house in Ahiwara area twice. He was confident he would be lucky the third time. He broke into their house last Friday and was looking for something to steal when he saw the couple enjoying a private moment. Seeing this, he hid and made a video on the smartphone he had stolen earlier.

The next morning, the couple was shocked when a video came on their phone from an unknown number. After this, a demand of Rs 10 lakh was made from the couple. The couple did not know how their private moments were recorded. They lodged a complaint with the police mentioning the number from where the video was sent. They were also called for ransom.

He was still using the same phone and the same number. The police seized three mobile SIM cards and a handset from him and deleted the video.
