The storm of ‘Hanuman Ansh’ in theaters tore apart ‘Mirzapur The Movie’, a fierce game at the box office on Sunday.

These days, such a surprising and unexpected reversal is being seen at the Indian box office, which hardly any trade expert would have imagined. On one hand, while the big banner and huge budget films are losing steam, on the other hand, the spiritual drama film ‘Hanuman Ansh’, made in a very low budget, has created such a historic moment that all the big kings of the box office are seen asking for water. The situation is that ‘Hanuman Ansh’, which is running in its sixth week in theatres, has left behind the recently released much talked about ‘Mirzapur The Movie’ and Akshay Kumar-Saif Ali Khan starrer ‘Haivaan’ in terms of earnings. Especially the figures of Sunday’s box office collection have proved that the magic of content and strong word-of-mouth is now working so well among the audience, due to which the back of big films has been completely broken.

Usually on weekends i.e. Sundays there is a rush of new films in theaters and the audience along with their families form long queues at the ticket window, but this time Sunday was completely in the name of ‘Hanuman Ansh’. According to trade analysts, the chaos this film created at the box office even in the sixth week and 38th day of its release has become a rare example in the history of Indian cinema. The film grossed double digits on its sixth Sunday and registered a spectacular net collection of around Rs 15 to 22 crores, which is unimaginable for a film that has already been in theaters for weeks. With this, ‘Hanuman Ansh’ has crossed the magical figure of Rs 200 crore in terms of total net collection in India and has defeated many big films in terms of total earnings.

When ‘Mirzapur’, which had a cult fan following and created a stir on OTT, was released on the big screen as ‘Mirzapur The Movie’, it saw a bumper opening at the box office. With the craze of Guddu Bhaiya, Kaalin Bhaiya and Munna Bhaiya, the film had earned huge profits in the initial weeks and was rapidly moving towards the Rs 200 crore club. But as soon as it faced the storm of ‘Hanuman Ansh’ which had already made a strong hold in the theatres, its pace started slowing down. In Sunday’s figures, ‘Hanuman Ansh’ overtook ‘Mirzapur The Movie’ in terms of earnings despite being a new release, making it clear that the fear of big names and franchises alone is not enough to keep the audience in theaters for a long time, unless the film has a different kind of engagement and strength.

Amidst this box office clash and turmoil, if any film has suffered the most, then it is the film ‘Haivaan’ directed by Priyadarshan and starring veterans like Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan. This film, made with a huge budget of around Rs 100 crore or more, seems to be in the category of disaster within just 3 days of its release in theatres. The film had a very cold opening and its business tanked badly in the first two-three days. The situation is such that far from being able to find its budget for the film, it is proving difficult to even save its shows in theatres. This failure of ‘Haivaan’ has once again proved that the audience has now completely rejected the clichéd stories or remake films and they want something which can touch the heart.

This success of ‘Hanuman Ansh’ seems like a fairy tale, because this film, made with a small budget of just Rs 1.8 to 2 crores, has surprised everyone by earning more than 100 times the profit at the box office. The film had a very modest beginning and opened its account with only Rs 10 lakh on the first day. But this story inspired by the life and spiritual messages of Neem Karoli Baba created such a place in the hearts of the audience that it created history on the basis of word of mouth publicity. This film has now been included in the list of the third highest grossing films of 2026 and its total worldwide earnings have crossed the figure of Rs 268 crore. This entire incident has proved that the real king at the box office is content, and if the story is strong then even a small budget film can shatter the ego of big giants.
