New Delhi, August 20 (HS). Buying remained strong in the domestic stock market on Tuesday. Today's trading started with a gain. Due to profit booking in the initial trading, the stock market also declined a little, but due to the buyers becoming active and starting buying within a short time, both the Sensex and Nifty indices gained momentum again. After the whole day's trading, the Sensex closed with a gain of 0.47 percent and the Nifty closed with a gain of 0.51 percent.
During today's trading, all the sectoral indices of BSE except FMCG closed in the green. There was strong buying in the shares of banking, IT and pharmaceutical sectors today. Similarly, the Public Sector Enterprise, Automobile and Metal index also managed to close with gains. There was continuous buying in the broader market as well, due to which the BSE Midcap index closed with a gain of 0.98 percent. Similarly, the Smallcap index ended today's trading with a gain of 0.52 percent.
Due to the strength in the market today, the wealth of stock market investors increased by more than Rs 2 lakh crore. The market capitalization of companies listed on BSE increased to Rs 456.57 lakh crore (provisional) after today's trading. Whereas on the previous trading day i.e. Monday, their market capitalization was Rs 454.39 lakh crore. In this way, investors made a profit of about Rs 2.18 lakh crore from today's trading.
There was active trading in 4,036 shares on the BSE during today's trading. Out of these, 2,394 shares closed with a gain while 1,544 shares showed a decline while 98 shares closed without any fluctuation. There was active trading in 2,375 shares on the NSE today. Out of these, 1,494 shares closed in the green zone after making profits while 881 shares closed in the red zone after incurring losses. Similarly, out of the 30 shares included in the Sensex, 25 shares closed with a gain and 5 shares closed with a decline. While, out of the 50 shares included in the Nifty, 39 shares closed in the green zone and 11 shares closed in the red zone.
BSE's Sensex opened today with a gain of 297.86 points at 80,722.54 points. After the start of trading, due to profit booking, the index fell by about 200 points from the opening level to 80,517.95 points. After this fall, buyers became active and started buying, which increased the movement of this index. Due to continuous buying, the Sensex reached the level of 80,942.96 points with a strength of 518.28 points. After the whole day's buying and selling, this index ended today's trading at the level of 80,802.86 points with a gain of 378.18 points.
Like the Sensex, NSE's Nifty today started trading at 24,648.90 points with a gain of 76.25 points. As soon as the market opened, profit booking started and the index slipped more than 40 points from the opening level to 24,607.20 points. However, after this, due to the start of buying, the movement of this index also gained momentum. With the support of continuous buying, this index was able to reach the level of 24,734.30 points with a gain of 161.65 points. After the day's buying and selling, Nifty closed at 24,698.85 points with a gain of 126.20 points.
Among the big stocks of the stock market, Bajaj Finserv 3.25 percent, Indusind Bank 2.29 percent, Tech Mahindra 2.12 percent, Bajaj Finance 1.57 percent and Kotak Mahindra 1.42 percent were included in the list of top 5 gainers of today after the day's trading. On the other hand, Bharti Airtel 1.30 percent, ITC 0.48 percent, Adani Ports 0.35 percent, JSW Steel 0.21 percent and UltraTech Cement 0.16 percent were included in the list of top 5 losers of today.
