New Delhi, September 9 (HS). After facing a decline for the last three days of last week, the domestic stock market showed its strength on the first day of the week today. However, today's trading also started with a decline. After the market opened, the weakness of Sensex and Nifty increased further due to the selling pressure, but after the first hour of trading, the stock market took the path of strength due to the support of buying. After the whole day's trading, Sensex closed with a gain of 0.46 percent and Nifty with a gain of 0.34 percent.

Today, during the day's trading, there was a lot of buying in the stocks of banking, FMCG and financial sectors. There was selling pressure in the stocks of oil and gas, metal and IT sectors. Along with this, capital goods, media, telecom, power and realty index also closed with a decline. There was continuous selling pressure in the broader market today, due to which the BSE midcap index closed with a weakness of 0.28 percent. Similarly, the smallcap index ended today's trading with a decline of 0.65 percent.

Due to the strength in the stock market today, the wealth of stock market investors increased by Rs 36 thousand crores. The market capitalization of companies listed on BSE increased to Rs 460.54 lakh crore (provisional) after today's trading, whereas on the last trading day of last week i.e. Friday, their market capitalization was Rs 460.18 lakh crore. In this way, investors made a profit of about Rs 36 thousand crores from today's trading.

There was active trading in 4,181 shares on the BSE during today's trading. Of these, 1,667 shares closed with a gain while 2,371 shares showed a decline while 143 shares closed without any fluctuation. There was active trading in 2,481 shares on the NSE today. Of these, 888 shares closed in the green zone after making profits and 1,593 shares closed in the red zone after incurring losses. Similarly, out of the 30 shares included in the Sensex, 14 shares closed with a gain and 16 shares closed with a decline. Out of the 50 shares included in the Nifty, 26 shares closed in the green zone and 24 shares closed in the red zone.

The BSE Sensex opened today with a weakness of 210.18 points at 80,973.75 points. As soon as the trading started, due to the selling pressure, the index fell by 288.88 to reach the level of 80,895.05 points. After this fall, the buyers started buying in the market, due to which the index gained momentum. With the support of continuous buying, shortly before the end of today's trading, the index jumped about 750 points from the lower level and reached the level of 81,653.36 points with a strength of 469.43 points. However, due to the selling due to intra-day settlement at the last moment, the Sensex slipped slightly below the upper level and closed at the level of 81,559.54 points with a gain of 375.61 points.

Like the Sensex, NSE's Nifty also started trading today at 24,823.40 points, falling 28.75 points. Due to selling pressure in the initial trading, the index fell 99 points to 24,753.15 points in a short while. After this fall, buyers took charge of the market and started buying from all sides. With the support of continuous buying, the index jumped more than 200 points from the lower level shortly before the end of today's trading and reached 24,957.50 points with a gain of 105.35 points. After the whole day's buying and selling, the Nifty ended today's trading at 24,936.40 points with a gain of 84.25 points.

After a whole day of buying and selling, among the big stocks of the stock market, Hindustan Unilever 2.92 percent, Shriram Finance 2.47 percent, ICICI Bank 2.22 percent, ITC 2 percent and Britannia 1.64 percent were included in the list of top 5 gainers of today. ONGC 3.21 percent, Tech Mahindra 2.71 percent, Hindalco Industries 1.28 percent, NTPC 1.25 percent and BPCL 1.24 percent were included in the list of top 5 losers of today.
