Syed Ahmed Bukhari: Shahi Imam of Delhi’s Jama Masjid Syed Ahmed Bukhari has made an emotional appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to talk to the Muslims of the country. Ahmed Bukhari made this appeal after Friday prayers (December 6) amid increasing communal tension over the survey of mosques in the country. Bukhari said that Prime Minister Modi should use his position properly and win the hearts of Muslims.

Imam Bukhari told Prime Minister Modi, ‘Assess the chair on which you are sitting. Win the hearts of Muslims and stop the miscreants who are constantly trying to spoil the country. Today the situation has become worse than in 1947 and this situation raises concerns about the future of the country. Bukhari had tears in his eyes when he said that no one knows in which direction the country will go.

Appealed to Prime Minister Modi to take immediate action

Citing the violence that took place during the survey of a mosque in Sambhal district on November 24, Bukhari appealed to Prime Minister Modi to take immediate action. He suggested that three Hindus and three Muslims be invited for talks to end the tension. There is a dire need for this conversation to improve the situation in the country.

Situation of tension after survey of mosques in Sambhal and Ajmer

Tension flared up during the survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid in Sambhal on November 19, when a petition was filed claiming that a Harihar temple previously stood at the site. On November 24, during the survey of the mosque by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), a stone pelting incident took place, in which four people were killed and several were injured. This incident increased communal tension.

Controversy over Ajmer Sharif Dargah

A petition has also been filed in Ajmer, claiming that the Ajmer Sharif Dargah was built over a Shiva temple. Rajasthan Court accepted the petition and issued notice to the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), Ajmer Dargah Committee and the Ministry of Minority Affairs. This petition has been filed by Hindu Sena’s national president Vishnu Gupta.

What did Bukhari say on the temple-mosque dispute?

Bukhari further said that now the time has come to promote communal harmony in the country and leave the temple-mosque dispute behind. Due to these disputes the situation of the country is worsening and its future is uncertain.
