Raj Kapoor’s 100th birth anniversary: RK Films, Film Heritage Foundation, NFDC, NFAI and CineMAA have jointly organized a celebration on the 100th birth anniversary of the great Raj Kapoor. It is titled ‘Raj Kapoor 100 – Celebrating the Centenary of the Greatest Showman’. The three-day festival will start from December 13 and continue till December 15. Under this, 10 films of Raj Kapoor will be shown in 40 cities and 135 theatres. The screenings will take place across PVR-INOX and Cinepolis cinemas, so that audiences can pay their respects in state-of-the-art theaters across the country.
The special thing is that the ticket price in every cinema house has been kept at only Rs 100, so that everyone can be a part of this magical journey.
Raj Kapoor (1924–1988) is considered one of the greatest filmmakers of Indian cinema, who has left an indelible mark on world cinema. Raj Kapoor, known as “The Greatest Showman”, did such an amazing job in film production, acting and direction that he inspires even today. Following the footsteps of his father Prithviraj Kapoor, Raj Kapoor created a distinct identity for himself. He worked as a child artiste in Inquilab (1935). After this, in 1948 he joined R.K. Established a film studio and produced several historical films.
His films brought to life the dreams of the common man, the conflict between village and city and emotional stories in post-independence India. Films like Awara (1951), Shree 420 (1955), Sangam (1964) and Mera Naam Joker (1970) are still alive in the hearts of cinema lovers. His famous character ‘Awara’, inspired by Charlie Chaplin, became popular all over the world and especially in the Soviet Union.
Raj Kapoor was awarded the Padma Bhushan (1971), Dadasaheb Phalke Award (1988) and several Filmfare Awards. His films like Awara and Boot Polish were also screened at the Cannes Film Festival and Jagte Raho won the Crystal Globe at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.
