Match fixing in T20 World Cup 2024 : T20 World Cup-2024 is currently being played under the hosting of USA and West Indies. A Ugandan player has complained to the ICC about receiving calls from unknown numbers.
A former Kenyan cricketer had offered fixing
According to the complaint, a former Kenyan cricketer called the Ugandan player from different numbers and offered fixing. However, the ICC's Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) immediately took up the matter. According to a news agency report, the incident took place during the league stage matches of the World Cup in Guyana. Here a former Kenyan fast bowler tried to call a member of the Ugandan team continuously from different numbers.
Ugandan player followed ICC rules
However, the Ugandan player followed the ICC's anti-corruption protocols and immediately informed the ACU authorities. Following this, the authorities took immediate action and asked all associate teams to be on the lookout for the former Kenyan player.
Uganda won only one of the four matches
In the group stage matches of the T20 World Cup-2024, Uganda started with a win against Papua New Guinea. However, later they suffered defeats against Afghanistan, New Zealand and West Indies. Uganda played three of its four matches in Guyana.
