Shimla, July 16 (HS). Chitta smuggler Akash Mathur (23) who escaped from the lockup of Dhali police station is a professional criminal. There are about 20 cases of theft and burglary registered against him in other states. Accused Akash Mathur is a native of Delhi. The special thing is that he has escaped from police custody earlier also. Last Sunday night he escaped from the lockup of Dhali police station and the police deployed there did not even get a clue of him. He escaped by cutting the grill of the lockup window. Dhali police got the clue of his escape after several hours. Several teams of Shimla police are engaged in searching for the accused. Even after the second day of his escape, Shimla police could not arrest the accused. The search for the accused is on.
According to the information, Shimla police is just a few steps away from catching the accused and his arrest is certain soon. At the same time, action is being taken against the police personnel who were negligent in this case.
Shimla SP Sanjeev Gandhi said that the accused who escaped from the lockup has earlier also escaped from police custody outside the state. There are about 20 cases of theft and burglary registered against him. Efforts are on by the police to catch the accused and he will be arrested soon.
The accused had escaped by breaking the grill of the lockup
Accused Akash Mathur was arrested by Dhali police on 9th July in Bhattakufar with the narcotic substance chitta (heroin). He was arrested with 14.61 grams of chitta in his possession. A case was registered against him under the NDPS Act. After this, the accused was produced in the court and he was on police remand. He was kept in custody at Dhali police station. Last Sunday night, the accused escaped by breaking the window grill of the police station. The police on duty at the police station got a clue of this at around 4:30 in the morning.
According to the FIR registered in this case, after the accused escaped, the grill of the window in the gallery of the lockup was found broken and the rope made of blanket tied to the grill was hanging outside the grill. Accused Akash Mathur had used the rope made by cutting the blanket from the grill of the window in the gallery of the police station's lockup to escape.
