The rule of 'one vehicle, one Fastag' implemented across the country – News India Live

FASTag has already been made mandatory for travel on national highways and expressways in India. Now the 'One Vehicle, One Fastag' rule of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has come into effect in the entire country from today. Also, customers will not be able to use multiple FASTags for one vehicle.

The objective of this rule is to discourage the use of one FASTag for multiple vehicles or having multiple FASTags for one vehicle. A senior official said that not more than one Fastag can be installed on a vehicle.

He said that people who have more than one Fastag for one vehicle will not be able to use it from April 1. Public sector unit NHAI has extended the deadline to implement the 'One Vehicle, One Fastag' scheme till March 31 in view of the problems faced by vehicle owners using Paytm Fastag.

FASTEG is an electronic toll collection system in India and is managed by NHAI. NHAI has launched 'One Vehicle, One Fastag' initiative to increase the efficiency of the electronic toll collection system and facilitate movement at toll plazas.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has advised customers and merchants of Paytm's subsidiary Paytm Payments Bank Limited (PPBL) to transfer their accounts to other banks by March 15.

FASTag covers about 98 per cent of vehicles and has more than eight crore users. FASTag uses radio frequency identification (RFID) technology to make toll payments directly from the prepaid or savings account linked to the toll owner.
