Amidst the farmers' movement, a major decision was taken in the interest of farmers in the Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday night. The Cabinet has increased the purchase price of sugarcane by Rs 25 per quintal. The purchase price of sugarcane has been increased from Rs 315 to Rs 340 per quintal. In the cabinet briefing after the meeting, Union Minister Anurag Thakur gave information about the decisions taken in the cabinet meeting. The second major decision is to launch a scheme for animal husbandry, under which 50 percent subsidy (maximum Rs 50 lakh) will be given to self-help groups working for livestock or individuals. All animals will get the benefit of insurance. The premium charged for it was 20 to 50 percent, which has been reduced to 15 percent. Private institutions will be given 50 percent subsidy (maximum Rs 50 crore). Thakur said that the third major decision has been taken regarding flood management and border area programme. Rs 4,100 crore has been allocated for this programme. Rs 2,930 crore will be given for flood management by 2025-26. The ratio of funding pattern will be 60:40. 60 percent of the funds will be given by the Center and 40 percent by the State Government.
Reforms in FDI policy for space sector
The Cabinet has also approved amendments in the FDI policy for the space sector. The satellite sub-sector has been divided into three separate activities and foreign investment limits have been set for each.
Up to 74% under automated route: satellite-manufacturing and operations, satellite data products and ground segment and user segment. More than 74% of such activities are under the government route.
Up to 49% under the automated route: Construction of launch vehicles and related systems or subsystems, spaceports for launching and receiving spacecraft. More than 49% of such activities are under the government route.
Up to 100% under automated route: Manufacturing of components and systems/sub-systems for satellites, ground segment and user segment.
Important decision for women's safety also
The cabinet meeting has decided to implement a plan for women's safety by 2025-26, under which the emergency helpline number 112 will be expanded for round-the-clock service. Cyber Forensic Science Labs will be set up in 6 cities including Pune, Chandigarh, Delhi and Bhopal for scientific and time bound investigation. A National Forensic Data Center will also be set up.
