The process of choosing a place for the memorial of former Prime Minister continues.

The Government of India has offered some options to the family of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh for the construction of his memorial. These include national memorial sites and other prominent places. Once the location of the memorial is decided, the construction process will begin.

Memorial planning and process

According to government sources:

  • A trust will be formed for the memorial after the family decides on the location.
  • This trust will oversee the construction planning and all subsequent activities.
  • Once the location is decided, the trust will apply for the land.
  • After allotment of land, MoU will be signed with CPWD.
  • Only after this the work of memorial construction will be started.

Where can the memorial be built?

Former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh died on 26 December 2024.

  • After his death, Congress had demanded the construction of a memorial from the government.
  • According to sources, 1-1.5 acres of land can be allotted for his memorial near Rajghat, National Memorial, or Kisan Ghat.

Congress made allegations

After the death of Dr. Manmohan Singh, Congress wrote a letter to the Central Government on the issue of the memorial and made some allegations.

  • Congress demands:
    • The funeral and memorial of Dr. Manmohan Singh should be held at the same place.
  • Congress General Secretary said:

    “The people of the country are unable to understand why the government is having trouble in deciding a place for his funeral and memorial.”

Memory and contribution of Dr. Manmohan Singh

Dr. Manmohan Singh was the 13th Prime Minister of India and during his tenure he gave a new direction to the Indian economy and global policy. After his death, there was a wave of mourning across the country.
