The plane kept flying and both the pilots kept sleeping for half an hour, 153 passengers were on board

Even one mistake of a pilot can put the lives of hundreds of passengers on board the plane in danger and that is why the duty of a pilot is considered sensitive.

However, there are also cases where pilots behave recklessly. An incident of both pilots sleeping for half an hour on a Batik Airline flight in Indonesia has come to light.

This matter is of 25th January. The Batik Airlines flight was going from Kendari city to Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia. There were 153 passengers and four crew members on board the aircraft. The flight was in the sky and both the pilots were sleeping for half an hour. This has been disclosed by the National Transport Safety Committee in its report.

However, no one realized this during the flight and after a journey of two hours and 35 minutes the plane landed safely. While both these pilots were sleeping, the plane deviated from its flight path. As soon as this matter came to the notice of the control room, the aircraft was contacted and this opened the eyes of the pilot.

The National Transportation Safety Board said in its investigation report on the incident that the second-in-command pilot had already told his co-pilot that he was tired and then fell asleep for 30 minutes. After this the Chief Pilot told his second in command pilot that now I want to take some rest. At this stage, the chief pilot as well as the second-in-command pilot had retreated. The plane kept flying for half an hour without the control of both the pilots.

It came to the control room's attention that the aircraft was deviating from its scheduled route, then the control room drew the pilot's attention to this and the pilot said that we could not respond because there was a problem in radio communication.

According to reports, the second-in-command pilot had one-month-old twins and often had to wake up at night to help his wife care for the children, so the flight was inclined.

Meanwhile, Indonesia's Civil Aviation Authority has banned both pilots from flying until further investigation is completed.
