There is going to be a big change in the tradition that has been going on for the last seven decades in Patna, the capital of Bihar, because now Ravana slaying and Ramlila will be staged in a new and dedicated Ramlila Maidan in place of the historical Gandhi Maidan. The name of Gandhi Maidan has always been at the top in Indian culture, festivals and political and cultural history of the capital Patna, where every year on the auspicious occasion of Vijay Dashami, a grand program of Ravana Dahan is organized. But now the state government has taken a big and far-sighted decision and announced that from next year this historic event of Ravana’s killing will not be organized at Gandhi Maidan, but for this a modern and huge Ramlila Maidan will be constructed near Marine Drive. Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary made this official announcement while participating in a grand Dahi-Handi cultural program organized at Gandhi Maidan in Patna on Saturday, the next day of Janmashtami. In his address, he specifically mentioned that for the last seven decades i.e. since 1955, Ramlila has been staged during Durga Puja and this huge event of Ravana Dahan on Vijay Dashami has been organized continuously at Gandhi Maidan, which has given a special identity to the city. However, keeping in mind the continuous expansion of the city, traffic management and huge crowd of events, the people of Ramlila Committee had strongly requested the government last year to allot a separate and definite place for Ravana slaughter and religious events. Respecting this demand of the committee and public sentiments, the government has identified land near Marine Drive and has taken the initiative to develop a new complex there. This decision will not only reduce the administrative pressure on Gandhi Maidan, but the capital Patna will get a permanent and state-of-the-art cultural center which will be exclusively dedicated to religious and traditional events, which will also provide better facilities and security to the spectators.
Giving information about three new huge grounds being built near Marine Drive, Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary said that this grand Ramlila ground will be completely ready by March 2027.
Giving a new impetus to the development work of the capital Patna, Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary has made it clear that the government is developing modern infrastructure along the Marine Drive, under which big projects are going to come on the ground very soon. Taking cognizance of the continuous demand made by the members of Ramlila Committee, the government has decided that a total of three big and spacious grounds are being constructed next to Marine Drive, which will become the new center of cultural and social events of Patna in the coming times. Out of these three huge grounds, a special ground will be completely reserved as ‘Ramlila Maidan’, where all future Ramlila stagings, cultural festivals and the event of Ravana slaughter on Dussehra will take place. The Chief Minister has also assured that all modern facilities and infrastructure will be developed in this new Ramlila Maidan keeping in mind the Sanatan tradition and the grandeur of the events, so that the devotees coming from India and abroad and the local spectators do not have to face any kind of inconvenience. In this regard, the Chief Minister has also issued strict and clear instructions to the District Magistrate i.e. DM of Patna so that there is no laxity in the construction work and full care is taken of the quality. According to the deadline set by the government, this entire Ramlila Maidan will be completed and officially handed over to the government by March 2027, after which the work of developing the permanent stage, pandals and other necessary structures there will be completed rapidly. After this historical change, the people of Patna are going to get a modern and well-equipped complex which will increase the grandeur of religious events manifold.
Expressing concern over the dire flood situation in Bihar and the rising water level of River Ganga, the Chief Minister presented before the country a very big and concrete master plan for flood control.
Speaking at this cultural platform of Dahi-Handi, Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary not only talked about cultural events, but also spoke very openly on the serious flood crisis currently facing many districts of Bihar. Referring to the figures, he said that this time in the last ten years, the maximum amount of water has come in the river Ganga, due to which there can be a danger of huge devastation and flood in many parts of the state. Seeing the seriousness of this situation, the state government has become fully alert and the Chief Minister himself has informed that all the concerned ministers and administrative officials have been deployed especially in the Ganga basin districts so that the situation can be continuously monitored. Not only Ganga, but water is also continuously coming into Ganga from major rivers like Son and Gandak, due to which a continuous rise in the water level is being recorded. To deal with this natural disaster permanently, the government in collaboration with the Central Government has prepared a very comprehensive and scientific plan, under which water management of dangerous rivers like Ganga, Gandak and Kosi will be done. The Chief Minister also announced that under this permanent solution to floods, strong roads will be constructed on both banks of river Ganga and water transportation system will also be started. This will not only help in evacuating the people from the flooded coastal areas during the rainy season, but will also make the trade and transport routes easier. Citing the geographical location, he said that when the Ganga river enters Bihar through Buxar, its water level is only fourteen thousand cusecs, but when it passes beyond Bhagalpur, this flow of water increases more than four times. Apart from this, a strong strategy is also being made by Nepal to stop the heavy inundation of Kosi and Gandak rivers, so that the people of Bihar can be saved from the wrath of floods every year and the development of the state can proceed uninterrupted.
