CPI leader murdered in Tripura: Some people attacked CPI leader Badal Sheel in Rajnagar area of South Tripura. He died during treatment. In this case, the opposition party CPI (M) in Tripura has accused BJP-backed gangsters of murder. In protest against this, a 12-hour statewide bandh was observed on Sunday.
The state BJP said that the police will investigate the matter and take necessary action. South Tripura SP Ashok Kumar Sinha said, Shil was attacked by goons on Friday evening. The identity of the goons is yet to be ascertained.
Police is visiting the spot and investigating. Sheel's family members allege that Sheel was attacked with axes, sticks and other weapons in Rajnagar market. AIG Ananta Das said, he died during treatment at Agartala's government GB Pant Hospital. The body will be handed over to the family after the post-mortem process is completed.
Shill suffered a serious head injury
Sheel filed his nomination papers for the panchayat elections to be held on July 11. Sheel suffered serious head injuries in the attack. CPIA(M) state secretary Jitendra Chaudhary said, “This is not the murder of Badal Sheel but the murder of democracy by the BJP. I appeal to protest this brutal murder and save democracy.
BJP expressed grief
Left Front coordinator Narayan Kar said the statewide shutdown will begin at 6 a.m. and continue till 6 p.m. BJP state spokesperson Nabendu Bhattacharya expressed grief, saying, “Every death is a cause of grief. We are sad and sympathize with the family of Badal Sheel who died during treatment and will take necessary action.”
