Russian Cancer Vaccine: In the world of cancer, Russia has claimed that it has created a cancer vaccine. Russia’s Health Ministry said that vaccination will be started from 2025. Russia also clarified that the vaccine would only be for cancer patients, not to prevent tumors from forming.
How effective is the Russian vaccine?
However, it is not yet clear which cancers the vaccine will target. It is not even known how effective this vaccine is. Not only this, even the name of the vaccine has not been revealed yet. However, Russia has said that it will provide the vaccine to patients in its country for free.
Like Russia, many countries around the world are working on personalized cancer vaccines. This type of vaccine uses RNA present in the patient’s tumor. In May this year, scientists at the University of Florida conducted a personalized vaccine trial on four cancer patients. Scientists claimed that patients developed strong immunity just two days after vaccination.
Russia’s claim
If Russia’s claim proves to be true and a cancer vaccine is found, it will be a big step in medical science. Because cancer is a disease that kills millions of people every year. According to WHO (World Health Organization), cancer is the second leading cause of death worldwide. Cancer causes 1 in every 6 deaths worldwide.
Cancer cases are increasing very rapidly in India also. Every year the number of cancer patients and deaths due to it is increasing. The number of cancer patients in India is expected to increase by 15 lakh by 2025.
According to government data, more than 71 lakh cases of cancer have been reported in India in the five years between 2019 and 2023. About 15 lakh cases were reported in 2023 alone. In this way, about 40 lakh people have died due to cancer in these five years. The highest number of deaths in five years was 8.28 lakh in 2023.
Tobacco is the biggest cause of cancer in India
Tobacco is the biggest reason for increasing cancer cases in India. Chewing tobacco can cause mouth or throat cancer. However, smoking cigarettes or beedis increases the risk of lung cancer. According to WHO report, most cases of mouth or throat cancer occur in men. Then there is lung cancer. In 2022, 6.91 lakh cases of cancer were reported in men. More than 1.5 lakh of them were suffering from mouth, throat or lung cancer.
This cancer is most common in women
However, breast cancer is increasing rapidly in women. Breast cancer accounts for approximately 27 percent of all cancer deaths in women. Apart from this, cases of cervical cancer are also increasing rapidly.
The earlier cancer is detected and the sooner treatment is started, the higher the survival rate. Early treatment of cancer saves many lives.
Proper diagnosis is essential for the treatment of cancer patients, as the treatment for each cancer is different. These include surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy. When someone is affected by cancer, he has many symptoms. Like, fever, headache, bone pain, weight loss etc. Starting treatment at the right time not only saves life, but also reduces the cost and pain of its therapy.
