Internet consumption: The base of 5G mobile subscribers in the country was 130 million in 2023, which number can increase to 860 million i.e. 86 crores by 2029. Prabhudas Lilladher has published a report on the country's telecom market in which these things have been said. According to the report, telecom operators can increase the tariff by 25 percent after the Lok Sabha elections, due to which the average revenue per user (ARPU) can increase from Rs 208 to Rs 286 by the financial year 2026-27. ARPU is expected to grow at a rate of 7 to 7.5 percent annually between 2023 and 2027.
Only 82.2 out of 100 wireless subscribers
Vikram Kasat, head of Prabhudas Lilladher's advisory group, prepared the report. According to the report, India is one of the top five telecom markets in the world, with its customer base growing at an annual rate of 2.9 percent. However, India ranks lowest among the top five countries in terms of the number of mobile subscribers per 100 people. The number of wireless subscribers in India is only 82.2 per 100 people, while the number of mobile subscribers per 100 people in China is 125, in Russia 169, in the US 110, in Indonesia 115. It is clear from these figures that India's telecom market still has a lot of potential to flourish.
India tops in data usage
According to the report, India is at the top in the world in terms of data usage. On an average, people use data for five hours on smartphones. The number of telecom subscribers in India has reached 1.084 billion, including wireline and wireless. Internet connections in the country have increased from 251.5 million in March 2014 to 91 million in March 2023. 5G network service has been launched in all 28 states and 8 union territories.
It was decided to increase the tariff after the elections
Prabhudas Lilladher has said in his report that after the Lok Sabha elections are over, the telecom tariff may increase by up to 25 percent. Earlier in November 2021, all telecom operators had increased the mobile tariff.
