The new government plans to build 18,000 km of expressways and high-speed corridors across the country

Highway network of India: Nitin Gadkari and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways under his leadership have prepared a plan of 30 thousand kilometers of highways and expressways and have sought a total of Rs 22 lakh crore from the government budget for this.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways says that 30,600 km of highways will be built in the country by 2031-32. This plan has been submitted to the Ministry of Finance and shared with all major ministries. According to this plan, there is a plan to build 18 thousand kilometers of expressways and high-speed corridors across the country.

There is a plan to build roads in border areas as well

Apart from this, there is also a plan to make 4000 km of highways around the city free from traffic jams. There is also a plan to build roads in border areas, which are of strategic importance. According to the ministry, 25 percent of the money for this will come from the private sector.

Total investment of Rs 22 lakh crore in the project

For this, the plan has been prepared in two phases. Under the first round, the entire process of issuing tenders will be completed in 2028-29. A total investment of Rs 22 lakh crore will be made in this project. Apart from this, the ministry has also demanded a ten percent increase in its allocation every year, so that the schemes can be completed.

The government had allocated Rs 2.78 lakh crore to the Highways Ministry in the interim budget, which is 2.7 percent more than last year. The second phase plan of the Road Transport Ministry is ready under which 28,400 km of highways will be constructed. Its tender work will be completed by 2033-34 and the project work will be completed by 2036-37.
