The mercury has reached 43 in many areas of the country. The scorching heat is also affecting the voting in the Lok Sabha elections. About 60 to 62 percent voting took place in the first two phases.
Before the third phase of voting, the Meteorological Department has issued a warning that the next five days are going to be even hotter. According to the warning, the impact of extreme heat will be most visible in the places where voting is to be held in the next two phases.
According to IMD's forecast, out of the 191 seats for which voting is to be held in the next two phases, there is going to be fierce competition on 186 seats. The temperature at these places will be more than 35 degrees Celsius.
Parts of West Bengal, Odisha, Bihar and Jharkhand are likely to experience severe heat for the next five days. Apart from this, there may be severe heat in some parts of Rayalaseema, Karnataka, Andhra and Telangana.
On Sunday, 38 degrees Celsius was recorded in Alappuzha, Kerala, 38.5 degrees in Bengaluru, 41.2 degrees in Dharmapuri, Tamil Nadu, 41.3 degrees in Diamond Harbor, Bengal, 45.2 degrees in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, and 45.6 degrees Celsius in Nandyal, Andhra Pradesh.
