The marriage lasted only one year but the divorce dispute lasted for 30 years | News India

New Delhi: The divorce and maintenance case between husband and wife was going on for 30 years which finally reached the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court has convicted a husband who kidnapped his wife and child shortly after marriage. Also ordered the husband to pay a total of Rs 30 lakh to the wife. It was also observed that after the birth of the child, the father did not pay any attention to his education or any other upbringing.

A couple in Bengaluru got married in 1991, a year after the birth of the child, the husband separated around 1992 and later filed for divorce in the Bengaluru Family Court, accusing the wife of cruelty. The family court upheld the divorce. Later the wife appealed to the High Court. The High Court asked the Family Court to reconsider the wife's appeal, after which the Family Court upheld the divorce on the ground of marital breakdown. Later the wife again appealed to the High Court, the High Court again quashed the decision of the Family Court and asked for reconsideration, the Family Court once again allowed the divorce and fixed an amount of 25 lakhs, which the husband will have to pay to the wife. Later the wife once again approached the High Court, the High Court upheld the decision of the Family Court and reduced the amount from 25 lakhs to 20 lakhs.

The wife appealed to the Supreme Court against the High Court's decision to reduce the amount. The Supreme Court said in its decision that the judicial system has done injustice to women. The father did not pay attention to the child and now he has become an adult. From paying his school fees to his upbringing, no attention was paid to it. If he is also responsible for the breakdown of the marriage, how can he benefit from the breakdown? Along with increasing the maintenance amount by Rs 10 lakh, the Supreme Court also ordered the husband not to interfere in the house where the child and wife currently live. However, no interference was given in the Family Court's decision to validate the divorce. In this way, this marriage lasted only for one year but the divorce dispute lasted for 30 years.
