The main reason for the collapse of the tank in Bareilly is the rapid erosion of the river, there was no negligence in the construction.

Lucknow/Bareilly, 09 September. In the report of Jal Nigam (Rural), the main reason behind the collapse of the overhead tank under construction under Jal Jeevan Mission in village Bairamnagar of Shergarh development block is not lack of construction quality, but excessive water flow and rapid erosion of Kichha river. According to the in-depth report of the department, at the time of construction the tank site was about 150 meters away from the river. Also, it was not included in the flood zone. After getting the soil tested, construction was being done as per the approved drawing-design and prescribed standards.

According to reports, the river flow suddenly increased following excessive rain last week and possibly excess water release from the Gaula Barrage. Due to this, the flow of the river changed and in just 3-4 days the water eroded rapidly and reached the banks of the tank complex. The Jal Nigam made arrangements for sand bags and pitching for safety, but due to the high and deep water flow, a permanent arrangement to stop the erosion was not immediately possible.

Due to the rapid erosion, the soil around the three meter deep foundation of the tank was washed away, due to which the surface support of the foundation became weak and tilted to one side. Due to this, on September 8, the partially constructed tank became unstable and fell into the river. It has been clarified in the report that there was no deficiency in construction material and quality. After construction, unusual changes in the river flow and coastline and rapid erosion caused by natural conditions were the main reasons for this incident.
