The indigenously developed ‘Ugram’ rifle, built in 100 days, has passed all rigorous tests and will now provide unwavering power to CAPF personnel.

India has taken another historic step towards self-reliance in the defense sector. The indigenous ‘Ugram’ 7.62×51 mm battle rifle developed by Telangana’s Hyderabad-based startup Dveepa Defense has successfully passed all the rigorous tests conducted by the Indian Army and the Home Ministry. This modern rifle has been designed and manufactured in a record time of just 100 days in collaboration with DRDO’s Arms Research and Development Establishment (ARDE), which is one of the fastest weapon development programs in the country.

New security cover of security forces: Preparation to join CAPF

After passing all the technical and field trials, now the process of inducting this dangerous rifle into Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) like CRPF, ITBP, SSB and NSG has been started. This indigenous weapon has completely passed the General Staff Qualitative Requirement (GSQR) test of the Army, field trials in all types of weather and adverse conditions as well as the board test of the Home Ministry.

Weight less than 4 kg and accurate target up to 500 meters

Talking about the technical features, the ‘Ugram’ rifle works on the modern gas-operated rotating bolt system. Keeping in mind the convenience of the soldiers, its weight has been kept less than 4 kg, which will make it very easy to carry in long operations. Along with this, its effective range is 500 meters, which is capable of killing the enemies in the blink of an eye.

Modern weapons are being produced in Hyderabad plant

Dwip Defense Managing Director Sibu Joseph said that the company had received the manufacturing license in 2021, after which a state-of-the-art production unit has been set up on over 13 acres of land allotted by the Telangana government in Hyderabad. Established in the year 2018, this startup has so far developed more than 100 indigenous weapon systems. The company is rapidly producing assault rifles, carbines, sub-machine guns, light machine guns and state-of-the-art armed anti-drone platforms from this plant.
