Dehradun, July 08 (HS). Uttarakhand Governor Lieutenant General Gurmeet Singh (Retd) on Monday took information about monsoon from Disaster Management Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman at Raj Bhavan. The Governor took stock of the situation arising due to heavy rains in many districts of the state.
The Governor said that learning from past experiences, we should prepare ourselves to deal with potential challenges. Special efforts should be made to minimize loss of life and property during monsoon. He said that fake news circulated through social media etc. should be refuted and action should be taken against such people. Instructions should be given to the officers to remain alert at places like potential disaster, landslides and waterlogging.
Disaster Management Secretary Vinod Kumar gave detailed information about the updated status of rainfall, water level of rivers and barrages, details of the condition of roads damaged during monsoon, human loss in road accidents, landslides at various places etc. He informed about the efforts being made for quick response to the disaster and rescue and relief work and told that disaster operation centers are operating continuously in every district including the state. Nodal officers of 18 departments are working for state disaster management. Warnings are being broadcast to the general public through CAP and WhatsApp. JCBs and automated water level recorders have been installed for monitoring rivers in landslide prone areas. Instructions have been given to establish 113 flood posts and install automatic hydrological sensors in all dam projects. He assured that preparations are complete at every level to deal with any kind of challenge during monsoon.
