Chandigarh: Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria on Thursday inaugurated the two-day Vice Chancellors' Conference on National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 at Punjab Raj Bhavan. On this occasion, Governor Kataria said that education should create harmony between our ancient traditions and modern technical education. This approach promotes cultural values ​​and people skilled in modern skills.

The Governor said that Punjab must maintain its leading role in the field of education by supporting a system that respects individual skills, bridges the language gap and ensures institutional development. He said the focus has been on implementing NEP's skill-based approach to learning to support the unique abilities of each student. He said that education should enhance the personal skills of the students. The Governor urged educational institutions to find ways to impart education at the individual level. The Governor also highlighted the importance of including regional languages ​​in the university curriculum, which eases the language transition for students moving from regional language schools to higher education. He said inclusion of regional language in the curriculum would help students pursue higher education without facing linguistic barriers.

The Governor said that achieving the ambitious goals of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 by 2035 requires united and collaborative efforts of all stakeholders including government institutions, educational institutions, teachers, students, parents and the private sector.

Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains highlighted Punjab's progress in educational reforms, improving infrastructure, enhancing teacher training and increasing student achievement in line with the NEP objectives. He stressed the need to focus on research and employment oriented education with 100 per cent placement target. Former Chairman of University Grants Commission (UGC) Prof. Ved Prakash talked about internationalization of higher education, stressing the need for global partnerships and research to strengthen Indian institutions. After the inaugural session, a round table discussion was also held with experts and Vice Chancellors and Directors of all government and private universities and institutions across Punjab.
