The prestigious organization Rekhta Foundation organized its first Gujarati event ‘Gujarati Utsav’ on Saturday 11 January 2025 in Mumbai. In the presence of dignitaries, Ghazal-song Mushaira and various songs and music were organized in the evening in the packed hall of Bharatiya Vidya Bhawan, Chopati.
Famous actress Sarita Joshi was present in this program.
Solicitor General of India Tushar Mehta was the chief guest at the event and Parimal Nathwani, Rajya Sabha MP and Director (Corporate Affairs), Reliance Group of Industries was the chief guest. Renowned actress Sarita Joshi saluted the richness and dignity of our language by presenting verses praising the splendor of the Gujarati language. He openly praised the works of Rekhta Gujarati. She also performed verses from the song, Nahi Bolu Re, composed by Purushottambhai and sung by Lata Mangeshkar. Udayan Thakkar, Advisor and Editor, Rekhta Foundation welcomed the guests. Rekhta became a movement for the development of the language
Speaking about the background and objectives of Rekhta Gujarati, Sanjeev Saraf, Founder, Rekhta, said, “Twelve years ago we started Rekhta for Urdu language and literature. Today Rekhta has become a movement for language development. This success encouraged us to work for other Indian languages. So we created a website in Sufi tradition and in Hindi and Rajasthani language. Rekhta Gujarati is also a step in this direction. We were able to start because of Tusharabhai Mehta’s passion and encouragement for Gujarati language and literature. Our effort is to bring Gujarati language and literature to the city.” Tushar Mehta compared Mumbai to the real capital of Gujarati literature. He talked about the purpose of Rekhta. At the same time, he also noted the importance of Rekhta’s work in bringing the Gujarati language to the international level.
He said, “We may have forgotten to teach the new generation to read and write Gujarati, but it has to be enjoyed. Rekhta is filling that gap. Rekhta is the best platform in the world to teach it. Even though Shakespeare and Tulsidas were great, the whole world knows one.” And only limited people know Tulsidas. The world also knows Bengali writer Sharadbabu but not our best writers. If there was a good translation of Narmad then the whole world would have known, what we have failed to do is Rekhta.
Mushaira was organized in the first part of the program and then after that. Talents like Rajesh Vyas ‘Miskin’, Bhavesh Bhatt, Krishna Dave, Heman Shah, Sanju Wala, Mukesh Joshi and Harshvi Patel enthralled the audience with impressive ghazal-song renditions. After the intermission, Prafulla Dave and Hardik Dave created a different world with the presentation of Gujarati songs and music.
