The fire in Vellalore dump yard of Coimbatore took a huge form, work to extinguish the fire continues

Chennai (Tamil Nadu), 07 April (HS). A massive fire has broken out at the Vellalore dump yard in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. According to fire brigade officials, information about the fire was received late on Saturday night and efforts were on to extinguish it, but on Sunday the fire took a horrific form. At present, efforts to extinguish the fire are going on.

According to fire brigade officials, efforts were made to control the flames as well as the smoke spreading in the surrounding areas, but the intensity of the fire increased and became uncontrollable. The local administration acted swiftly and around 40 private water lorries, 14 fire tenders and 300 fire brigades reached the spot and have been working to extinguish the fire ever since.

Officials said that the cause of the fire and how much old garbage was burnt to ashes is not yet known. Visuals from the scene showed thick black smoke rising from the waste reportedly spread over an area of ​​about two acres of the dump yard.

Coimbatore District Collector Kranti Kumar Pati told reporters that the fire would be brought under control soon. He said that efforts are being made that once the fire is controlled, the problem of its spreading to the surrounding areas can be tackled. At present the cause of the fire is being investigated.
