Andrea Wojnar, India head of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), said that India's elderly population is likely to double by 2050. The government needs to spend more money on health services, housing schemes and pensions, especially for elderly women in the country.
If they do not get the right help at the right time, such elderly women will be left alone and face poverty. At the same time, the government needs to put more emphasis on skill development of the youth. The government also needs to focus on important issues like urbanization, tourism and climate change and gender equality. By 2050, when 50 percent of the country's population will live in cities, the government will have to build new smart cities, build strong infrastructure and build affordable but sustainable homes to solve the growing number of slums, air pollution and environmental problems in the country.
The government is committed to bringing about change in many areas
Soon after World Population Day, UNFPA's India Resident Representative Vajnar highlighted important issues related to population in the report and wrote that India is taking several steps to achieve sustained growth momentum. Important steps are being taken to address young population, old population, urbanization and tourism as well as climate change. All these factors are a big challenge for the government. The most important thing is that by 2050 the elderly population in the country will reach 34.6 crores. The government will have to take additional measures to take care of the elderly.
safety of women
The government will have to give more importance to the safety of women in urban planning. Their health will have to be taken care of and it will have to be ensured that they get proper and good education as well as good jobs. So that the scope of gender equality can be increased and their standard of living can be improved. The population of youth between 10 and 19 years in India is 25 crore 20 lakh. Along with maintaining gender equality, the government will have to invest heavily in health, education, job training and creation of new jobs. By doing this, the country can be taken on the path of continuous progress.
