News India Live, Digital Desk: The long wait of the devotees has ended today. On the holy festival of Akshaya Tritiya, the doors of the world famous Gangotri and Yamunotri Dham located in the high Himalayan regions of Uttarakhand have been opened with chanting and rituals. With this, the Chardham Yatra of the year 2026 has been formally started. Thousands of devotees witnessed this historic moment in the presence of the Chief Minister and other dignitaries.

Flood of faith in Gangotri and Yamunotri

On Friday morning, at the auspicious time, the doors of Yamunotri Dham were first opened, after which the doors of Gangotri Dham were also opened for the devotees. The entire valley echoed with shouts of ‘Jai Maa Gange’ and ‘Jai Maa Yamuna’. Both the premises have been lavishly decorated with flowers by the temple committees. The administration has made strict arrangements for security and health facilities so that the pilgrims coming from India and abroad do not face any kind of inconvenience.

When will the doors of Kedarnath and Badrinath Dham open?

If you are also planning Chardham Yatra, then note down the schedule of the remaining two major Dhams. The doors of Baba Kedarnath will be opened for the devotees on 22 April 2026 in the morning Brahma Muhurta. At the same time, the date of opening of the doors of Lord Badri Vishal i.e. Badrinath Dham is fixed on 24th April. Preparations for opening the doors of both these Dhams are in the final stages and a large number of devotees are expected to arrive.

Registration is mandatory for devotees

The Uttarakhand government has clarified that ‘Chardham Registration’ is mandatory for the smooth conduct of the Yatra. Without registration, travelers are not being allowed to go beyond Rishikesh. This time, for the convenience of the passengers, arrangements have been made for registration through both online and offline modes. Apart from this, in view of the weather conditions, the Health Department has advised the passengers to be cautious and get medical checkups done from time to time.
