The ‘Donation Game’ in the name of the Ayodhya Ram Temple: How Fraudsters Were Looting People by Handing Out Fake Receipts—This New Modus Operandi Will Stun You

Ever since the construction of the grand Ram temple in Ayodhya, there has been a competition among Ram devotees across the country to donate. But taking advantage of this faith, some vicious criminals have created a huge network of fraud. Police have exposed one such gang which was collecting huge donations from people by printing fake receipt books in the name of Ram Temple. The surprising thing is that these thugs were emptying people’s pockets not only through online means but also through offline means by cutting slips. These accused used to hand over fake receipts to any devotee who wanted to donate with devotion.

In the name of faith, fraudsters have created such a conspiracy.

According to the investigating agencies and the local police, the modus operandi of this gang was very vicious. These fraudsters had prepared exactly the same receipts using the name and logo of the trust which looked genuine. He used to go directly to common people, shopkeepers and local colonies and ask for donations in the name of construction of Ram temple and religious events. When a person made a secret donation ranging from Rs 100 to thousands of rupees according to his devotion, these accused would immediately cut out a ‘confirmed slip’ and hand it over to him so that no one could have any doubt. Due to this fraud, lakhs of rupees were going into the pockets of these criminals instead of going directly into the trust account.

Not only the amount of donation, data was also being stolen

Another major revelation has come to light in the initial police interrogation. This gang was not limited to just donating money; While cutting the receipt, he also used to note down very sensitive information like name, mobile number, address and banking details of the devotees. There is a possibility that this data will be used in future for big cyber fraud or hacking of bank accounts. This is why the Ayodhya administration and cyber cell have issued an alert to people across the country not to give donations in cash or on any unauthorized receipt in the name of Ram Temple to any unknown person.

How to protect your hard-earned money from fake donations and fraud?

If you also want to contribute to the temple of Lord Shri Ram, then always be alert. Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust has clarified that to donate, use only their official website or bank accounts. Avoid making cash payments to any local person or unauthorized institution.
