On Sunday evening, the police laid siege to arrest the accused of attack on jailer Kasturi Lal Gupta in Jhansi, which led to an encounter. During this time the police arrested two miscreants. In the encounter, a criminal carrying a reward of Rs 20,000 was shot in his leg, while the other accused was caught while trying to escape. Bike, pistol and cartridges were recovered from them.
Attack on jailer: details of the incident
- On 14 December 2024, jailer Kasturi Lal Gupta was going to Hyderabad railway station for training.
- On the way, miscreants in a car surrounded his taxi on Station Road and attacked him with sticks.
- The miscreants fled leaving the jailer injured in the attack.
Jailer’s allegation:
The jailer claimed that the attack was carried out by Kamlesh Yadav, a history-sheeter lodged in the district jail. Angered by his shifting to Hamirpur jail, Kamlesh Yadav carried out this attack through his son and his associates.
First criminal arrested on 18th December
During the encounter on December 18, 2024, the police had arrested Sumit Yadav, carrying a reward of Rs 20,000, from Sukuwa-Dhukwan Colony.
- Sumit was shot in the leg in the encounter.
- Weapons were also recovered from him.
Sunday’s encounter: Two more criminals arrested
Event Details:
- Police received information that criminals with rewards were hiding in the forests of Bajrang Colony on Mustara Road.
- During the siege, the miscreants started firing on the police.
- In retaliation:
- Ashraf (award of Rs 20,000) was shot in the leg.
- The second accused Nadeem was caught while trying to escape.

SP City Gyanendra Kumar Singh said:
“We had received information that criminals with rewards were hiding in the forests of Mustara Road. When an attempt was made to arrest him, the miscreants opened fire. Both the miscreants were injured in retaliation. “They have been sent to the medical college, and weapons and vehicles have been recovered from them.”

The police admitted the injured criminals Ashraf and Nadeem to the Medical College of Jhansi.

- Interrogation of the arrested criminals is continuing.
