The country's wholesale inflation reached 13-month high in April |Live Updates,Unveiling the Latest India News Trends

The wholesale inflation rate in the country increased to 1.26 percent on an annual basis in April. In March it was 053 percent. This is the highest data in 13 months. The Commerce Ministry released the figures on Tuesday. The wholesale price of onion increased by 59.75 percent in April. Which was 56.99 percent in March. According to people associated with the industry, the country may face a huge shortage in the supply of onion till the harvest of the next Kharif crop. Apart from this, the wholesale index of potato increased by 71.97 percent in April, whereas it increased by 52.96 percent in March. According to the data, the wholesale price of onion had declined by 5.54 percent in the same month last year. Whereas the price of potato increased by 30.56 percent.

Food prices increased

On annual basis, wholesale food inflation rate increased to 5.52 percent. Which was 4.7 percent in March. Food inflation increased by 1.94 percent month-on-month, whereas it was 0.95 percent in March. The government said the positive growth in wholesale price index in April 2024 was mainly due to increase in prices of food items, electricity, crude oil, natural gas, manufacturing and sale of food products etc.

Reduction in cost of manufactured products

Wholesale inflation of crude oil and cooking gas rose by 4.97 percent in April, compared to 1.64 percent in the same month last year. The contraction rate of the primary articles segment increased to 5.01 percent in April from 4.51 percent in the previous month. Prices of manufactured products declined by 0.85 percent compared to the previous month's decline. Which is 0.42 percent. The prices of fuel and electricity have increased by 1.38 percent. Whereas in March there was a decrease of 0.77 percent. The government has recently released India's retail inflation data. This shows that this April it fell to an 11-month low of 4.88 percent. Which was at 4.85 percent last month.
