New Delhi: There is a lot of discussion going on on social media these days on the issue of road and toll tax collection. This debate has started after a report claimed that Rs 8,349 crore has been collected as toll tax for a highway built at a cost of Rs 1,896 crore.
It is claimed that this information has been obtained by asking questions under RTI. The person who asked this question by writing a letter from Jaipur, Rajasthan has said that Delhi-Jaipur Highway means National Highway No. 8 is Manoharpur Toll Plaza. Toll tax is being collected at this toll for a long time.
Although the money spent on the construction of this highway has been recovered long ago, toll tax is still being collected.
Apart from Manoharpur, there are two other toll plazas on this national highway, Shahjahanpur and Daulatpur. Information about these three toll plazas was sought through RTI. However, so far only one toll plaza has been answered.
Toll tax is being collected at Manoharpur Toll Plaza since March 3, 2009. Rs 1896 crore has been spent in building this highway. By 2023, toll tax of Rs 8349 crore has been collected on this highway.
After this thing came to light, people have many questions in their mind. People are asking that if road tax is paid while buying a vehicle, then why is toll tax taken every 50 kilometers while driving on the road? According to people, if the data of all the major highways is taken out in the same way, then it will be known that every highway is earning four times the profit.
