The color of the ball is going to change in test cricket, ICC has made a big plan for day test, know what is the new rule

Balls of two different colors have long been used in international cricket. While the white ball predominates in the limited overs ODI and T20 formats, the red ball has traditionally been used in Test cricket, the longest format of the game. But now there is going to be a big change in the rules of cricket. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has prepared a big plan regarding the color of the ball in the long format of Test cricket, which can increase the excitement of the game in the future.

Recently, in an official release issued by the ICC, several possible changes have been discussed in the rules of cricket, in which a major update has come regarding the color of the ball in Test matches. Although the pink ball has been in use continuously since 2015 for day-night matches in Test cricket, now it is being considered to expand this scope further.

According to the new plan of ICC, the supreme body of cricket, now the use of pink ball will not be limited only to day-night matches, but it can also be tried during normal ‘Day Test’. The ICC has clarified in its release that as a trial, if the day’s play is affected due to bad light or other reasons during the match and there is a need to save the game, then with the mutual consent of both the teams, the pink ball can be used in the day-test also.

However, some strict conditions have also been set regarding this new rule so that the fairness of the match is maintained. As per ICC guidelines:

  • Even before the start of the Test match, it will be mandatory to reach a mutual agreement between both the teams and the umpires regarding the use of pink ball.

  • Once agreed before the match, the same rules will apply throughout the match and the decision cannot be changed once the match has started.

  • A sudden switch from the red ball to the pink ball after the start of the match will not be allowed under any circumstances.

At present, no fixed date or time limit has been announced by the ICC as to when this trial of pink ball will be officially fielded in day-test matches. The eyes of cricket lovers and experts are now fixed on when and how the ICC will implement this trial and what its results will be. If this trial is successful, it could prove to be a huge and revolutionary change in the history of Test cricket in the times to come.
