The BookMyShow website and app, which sells tickets for British rock band Coldplay's India concert, crashed on Sunday. Tickets for the concert, scheduled to be held at Mumbai's D.Y. Stadium on January 19 and 20 next year, went on sale at 12 noon on Sunday.
Around 1.3 crore people logged in simultaneously to buy 1.5 lakh tickets priced between Rs 3,500 and Rs 35,000, causing the server to crash. After about an hour, the Book My Show server was restarted. According to media reports, around 14 lakh people had logged in for ticket booking at that time. In such a situation, users were put on a waiting list. News agency ANI quoted the Book My Show site as saying that at 1.39 pm 8.43 lakh users were waiting.
