Bhagalpur, 21 August (HS). The Bharat Bandh called by Bahujan organizations against the Supreme Court's decision on sub-classification of SC/ST had a mixed effect in Bhagalpur. Along with opposing the SC/ST sub-classification, the bandh supporters were also raising demands to include the provision of 65 percent reservation for SC, ST and EBC-BC of Bihar in the 9th Schedule, ban recruitment through lateral entry, give reservation to OBCs in proportion to the population, abolish the 50 percent limit of reservation and the provision of creamy layer in OBC reservation, conduct caste census soon and guarantee SC, ST and OBC share in proportion to the population in every sector including the appointment of judges in the private sector and the High Court-Supreme Court.

The bandh was led by Gautam Kumar Pritam of Social Justice Movement (Bihar), Akhilesh Raman of Bihar Phule-Ambedkar Youth Forum, Naseeb Ravidas, Ashok Ambedkar, Sunil Das, Anupam Ashish, Santosh Paswan, Sohrab Alam, Deepak Diwan of Bahujan Students Union (Bihar). Meanwhile, in Bihpur, supporters of the bandh started gathering at Shaheed Gate of Bihpur block from 9:30 am.

Groups of bandh supporters from Bihpur assembly constituency gathered from Sonvarsha, Hario, Jhandapur, Vikrampur, Arsandih, Kharik, Narayanpur etc. At 11:00 am, groups of thousands shouting slogans of peaceful Bharat Bandh went to the market via Bihpur block office. Later they gathered at one place and held a meeting. Addressing the meeting, Gautam Kumar Pritam and Akhilesh Raman said that through this historic bandh, Bahujans from all over the country, including Bihpur, have raised their voice in support of other demands against SC/ST sub-categorization. Narendra Modi's government should not ignore this voice. The Supreme Court's decision should be canceled by bringing a bill in the Parliament.
