Pakistan social media 'X' shutdown: Social media platform 'X' has been banned in Pakistan for the seventh consecutive day. The ban imposed since February 17 has not been lifted yet, due to which people are facing difficulty in sharing information. However, Pakistan's Information and Technology Minister Dr. Omar Saif and Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) have also not yet issued any statement on this matter.

Internet was shut down to avoid terrorist attack

General elections were held in Pakistan on 8 February. Since then, people of Pakistan have not been able to use many social media platforms. A Pakistani government official said that internet services were shut down on election day to avoid terrorist attacks. Due to which 'X' often remains troubled.

Shutting down the internet is an unconstitutional act

Shutting down the internet is a violation of the Constitution's freedom of information and expression. In 2018, Islamabad High Court had said that shutting down the internet is a violation of fundamental rights. Digital official activists have condemned Pakistani authorities in this regard. However, on February 23, the Sindh High Court ordered the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority to resume 'X' service in the country.
