The Ayurveda Director should appear and explain why the order was not followed.

Jaipur, 28 October (HS). The Rajasthan High Court has taken serious note of non-compliance of the order given in the matter of increasing the retirement age of Ayurveda doctors from 60 years to 62 years. Along with this, the court has asked the Ayurveda Director to appear and explain why the order was not followed. However, the court has said that if the order is complied with within two weeks then the director need not appear in the court. The division bench of Justice Pankaj Bhandari and Justice Praveer Bhatnagar gave this order while hearing the contempt petition of Dr. Mahendra Gupta and others.

In the petition, advocate NK Garg said that the High Court had issued an order on July 13, 2022, increasing the retirement age of Ayurveda doctors from 60 to 62 years. On this, the state government challenged this order by filing a special leave petition in the Supreme Court. On January 30, the Supreme Court upheld the decision of the High Court and rejected the SLP of the state government. After the SLP was rejected, the state government filed a review petition in the Supreme Court and requested to reconsider its decision, but on October 15, 2024, the Supreme Court, while upholding the earlier decision, also rejected the review petition of the state government. The petitioners say that even after the SLP and review petition have been rejected by the Supreme Court, the state government is not following the order of the High Court. Therefore, the order should be followed. While hearing this, the Division Bench has asked the Director of Ayurveda to appear and answer if the order is not followed within two weeks.
