The assassin of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi breathed his last in the hospital named after him

Rajiv Gandhi assassination case: Santhan, the assassin of former Prime Minister late Rajiv Gandhi, has died. He died during treatment for the disease. However, the interesting thing is that Santhan died in the Chennai government hospital named after late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated by Santhan. He was convicted of murder but later acquitted. Santhan, 55, was admitted to the hospital in January following liver failure, where he was undergoing treatment for chronic diseases.

Santhan was sentenced to death

Dean of the hospital, Dr. E Theranirajan said that Santhan's condition has remained critical since his admission. After this, due to his illness, he suffered a heart attack this morning, due to which he died. The doctor further said that after the cardiac arrest, initially it seemed that he would recover, but he could not be saved. Santhan was given death sentence in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, which was later commuted to life imprisonment. Not only this, in November 2022 itself, 5 other murderers including Santhan were released. All these people spent about 32 years in jail.

Santhan filed a petition in Madras High Court demanding permission to go to Sri Lanka.

Even after their release, these people were kept in the special complex of Trichy Central Jail. The reason behind this was that he was originally a citizen of Sri Lanka and had neither a passport nor any travel document. Santhan filed a petition in the Madras High Court demanding that arrangements be made to send him to Sri Lanka as he wanted to see his elderly mother. However, before any decision could be taken, Santhan died after a long illness.
