That period of poverty when there was no money to see a doctor: Diljit Dosanjh’s struggle and journey of success

Today, behind the glittering life of Diljit Dosanjh, who has become a global music star, a very bitter and struggling past is hidden. Recently, on ‘Q with Tom Power’ YouTube channel, Diljit remembered his childhood days, when his family was struggling badly with financial crisis. Diljit emotionally told that there was a time when someone in the house fell ill, there was no money even to see a doctor. This compulsion inspired him to dream of becoming rich and famous since childhood.

Addiction to earning money and performing at weddings

Diljit never missed any opportunity to get out of his poverty. After the release of her first album in 2002, when she received offers to perform at birthday parties, she initially felt hesitant. But as soon as he saw that there was good money in it, he made it his source of livelihood. Diljit admitted, “I was addicted to earning money. No matter how much Rs 5,000 or Rs 10,000 someone offered me, I never said ‘no’. I kept working hard day and night to bring the family out of that period of poverty.”

When people tried to humiliate

While continuously performing at weddings, some fellow artists of Punjab music industry tried to humiliate him. Many people working with him started looking at him with disdain considering him just a ‘wedding performer’. To prove his capability, Diljit took a big decision. He stopped performing at weddings and started planning his own big concerts. This proved to be the turning point of his career, from where he traveled to global platforms.

Now fame has no value?

Today, Diljit, who has become the heartbeat of millions, believes that the stardom and money he has got is no longer as important as it used to be in his childhood. He said, “In childhood, the biggest motivation was just to earn money, but now after achieving everything, I feel that these things have no value.” A child who was afraid of falling ill in childhood because there was no money for treatment, has today become the biggest inspiration for crores of youth due to his hard work and talent.
