N Biren Singh convoy attacked: Terrorists attacked the security convoy of Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh in Kangpokpi district on Monday (June 10, 2024). News agency PTI quoted the police as saying that a soldier was injured.
Police said that CM N Biren Singh's security convoy was going to the violence-affected Jiribam district of Manipur, but suddenly several rounds of firing were done. Seeing this, the security forces immediately retaliated. Firing is still going on near Kotlen village.
Speaking to PTI, an official said, “Chief Minister Biren Singh has not yet reached Imphal in Manipur from Delhi. He was planning to visit Jiribam on Saturday (June 8, 2024) to take stock of the situation in the district.” The terrorists set fire to two police posts, a forest department office and over 50 houses.
Police said the situation in Manipur's Jiribam district is tense but under control. Additional security forces have been deployed in the affected areas after Saturday's incident. A senior police officer said more than 70 houses were set on fire in Lamatai Khunou, Dibong Khunou, Nanakhal and Begra villages.
Violence erupted after suspected militants killed a 59-year-old man in Jiribam, Manipur. An official had said that a man named Soibam Sarathkumar Singh went missing after going to his farm on June 6. He said that his body was later found, which had marks of injury caused by a sharp object.
